Biography

 

Alexis Daniel Medina Montes was born on April 21, 1999, in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. He began his musical training at the Escuela Estatal de Iniciación Musical “Julián Carrillo” in his hometown under the guidance of Professor Emmanuel Mendoza Lara. Later, he moved to Málaga, Spain, where he currently resides, to continue his musical education at the Conservatorio Superior de Música. There, he studied with renowned professors such as David Martínez, Jaume Rico, and Juan Carlos Almendros Baca, completing his Advanced Artistic Studies in Music with a specialization in Classical Guitar Performance.

In 2024, he furthered his academic training by obtaining a Master’s Degree in Music Research from the Universidad Internacional de La Rioja (UNIR), with his master’s thesis titled “Optimal Fingerings: An In-Depth Analysis to Enhance Interpretation and Technique in Classical Guitar.” This work reflects his commitment to research and continuous improvement in the field of musical performance.

 

Awards and Recognitions

Throughout his career, Alexis has won numerous prizes in classical guitar competitions:

•2017: 2nd place, Youth Category, XL Festival de Guitarra de Paracho (Mexico)

•2015: 1st place, Category C, 9th Children’s and Youth Classical Guitar Competition

•2015: State Youth Award, Distinction in Artistic Expressions and Folk Arts, San Luis Potosí, Mexico

•2014: 3rd place, Junior Youth Category, V National Guitar Competition in Salamanca

•2014: 1st place, Category B, 6th Children’s and Youth Classical Guitar Competition “Manuel López Ramos”

•2013: Honorable Mention, Youth Category, XVII National Competition for Young Classical Guitar Performers, Paracho (Mexico)

•2013: 2nd place, Category B, 5th Children’s and Youth Classical Guitar Competition “Manuel López Ramos”

Medina has participated in masterclasses given by internationally renowned guitarists, enriching his training and technique. He has had the opportunity to work with maestros such as Pedro Mateo (Spain), Alí Arango (Cuba), Enric Madriguera (United States), Denis Azabagic (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Edel Muñoz (Cuba), Paulino García (Spain), Timo Korhonen (Finland), among others.

Alexis has performed numerous solo recitals in important cultural venues in Mexico and Spain, including the Francisco Cossío Museum, the National Mask Museum, and the Center for the Arts in San Luis Potosí. He has also appeared as a soloist with the Camerata de San Luis Potosí and the Youth Orchestra of the Escuela Estatal de Iniciación Musical “Julián Carrillo.”

Since 2018, he has been an active member of the Málaga Guitar Orchestra, with which he has performed in renowned venues such as the Joaquín Eléjar Hall, the Carmen Thyssen Museum, the Unicaja Joaquín Peinado Museum in Ronda, and the Villa de Nerja Cultural Center.
